XXI Olympic Vancouver 2010
The 21st Olympic Winter Games is being held in Vancouver, B.C. - Canada starting on February 12th until the 28th, 2010. Some events held in the Whistler resort town. This is the 3rd Olympics hosted by Canada & the 1st in B.C. (previously in Montreal, Quebec in 1976 & Calgary, Alberta in 1988).
The 2010 Winter Olympics logo is called Ilanaaq the Inukshuk. It was unveiled on April 23, 2005. Ilanaaq is the Inuktitut word for friend.
The 4 mascots were introduced on November 27, 2007 inspired by traditional First Nations creatures:
✜ Miga is a mythical sea bear, part of orca & kermode bear
✜ Quatchi is a sasquatch (Bigfoot), who wears boots & earmuffs. He comes from the mysterious forests of Canada & dreams of being a hockey goalie
✜ Sumi is an animal guardian spirit, who wears the hat of the orca whale, flies with the wings of the mighty Thunderbird & runs on the strong furry legs of the black bear
✜ MukMuk is a small & friendly Vancouver Island marmot
Miga & Quatchi are mascots for the Olympic Games, while Sumi is the mascot for the Paralympic Games.
MukMuk is considered a sidekick.
I was vacationing in Vancouver in August 2009. I took the chance to meet with the cute mascots & purchase some souvenirs. MukMuk is my favorite! I brought a little one home.
Well, I really wish to be in Vancouver this week. LOVE the city! Maybe I move there one day...
